Superstar on the court, superstar off the court – Carmelo Anthony is doing it right

Doing it right

Besides being a superstar on the basketball court, Carmelo excels off the court in his efforts to improve communities and to positively impact the way of life for disadvantaged children and families through his philanthropic efforts.

The Carmelo Anthony Foundation, founded in 2005 by Carmelo Anthony himself, is the vehicle by which Carmelo gives back to the community through a variety of outreach programs and donations.

The mission of this nonprofit organization is to positively impact the lives of those living in under-served communities through 3 key focus areas – education, recreation and community outreach. The vision of the foundation is to provide programs & services that will empower and inspire the less fortunate to be more than their circumstances may dictate.

In October 2014, Carmelo took advantage of his off-night to give back to the New York City community and donated school supplies to supply 4,000 students in classrooms all over NYC.

“There’s a lot of times the kids come to school and they don’t have notebooks. They don’t have pens. They don’t have pencils. They don’t have the outreach for that. Sometimes teachers have to go in their own pockets and spend their own money, and that’s taking away from them. A lot of times teachers can be overlooked and overshadowed, so I want to make it as smooth as possible. Make it easy and give them what they need.” – Carmelo Anthony

A Very Melo Weekend is a signature fund-raising event benefiting The Carmelo Anthony Foundation to help build basketball courts for kids in Puerto Rico and to raise money for local projects.

Carmelo wraps up his 4th Annual A Very Melo Weekend in Puerto Rico where he dedicated his 11th court for kids.

The Carmelo Anthony Foundation together with Avon and Feed the Children gave meals to 800 families in The Bronx, NY.

Earlier this year, New Orleans got the All-Star treatment when Carmelo Anthony gave back to the community at the NBA Cares All-Star Day of Service.

I’m just here to make a difference.” – Carmelo Anthony
